Makeshift Platform

Found this photo today on reddit.

Does anybody happen to know the story behind this backyard gym?

Anyway, the moral of the story is

Make the best of what you’ve got.

Update: Danny Nemani commented

I know that they are from Cameroon – I’ve competed against the guy in the red – he’s a super heavyweight with lifts of 150-160kg snatch and 190-200kg Clean & Jerk.

So after some searching I think the guy in the red could be Frederic Fokejou Tefot.

And the guy lifting is probably Brice Vivien Batchaya, who trains in France now (thanks Christian).

Update #2: Found videos of the guys training there.

It’s kind of strange they can afford an olympic barbell, bumper plates and what appears to be adidas but not a platform?

platforms way more expensive. also, see: no excuses

It looks like they’re lifting out in the open. If I had to guess, they spend their money on barbells, bumpers, and shoes because they can be moved easily out of the elements, but a standard platform couldn’t.

Check out the squat stands in the back left.
