Jan Struve 105kg World Champion

Here is something for all of you how think you are too old to get into weightlifting.

I bet you didn’t know that Germany had a reigning 105kg world champion…

Well, check out Jan Struve. Coming from a gymnastics background, he started weightlifting in 2001 at the age of 25.

10 years later, in 2011, he won the 35+ masters title in the 105kg with a 125kg Snatch and 163kg Clean & Jerk.

The gym he trains in is pretty simple. Lots of diy equipment, like the leg press machine, squat stands etc.

Jan trains 4 times per week for 3 hours, all while working full time in his job as a sales clerk.

He says that for him weightlifting is just a hobby, done purely for fun. And he is amazed to have gotten so far as an amateur.

The video is in German, but I think you can still enjoy it. And in case you were wondering, his club promised him to carry him through the town if he becomes world champion.

Subscribe to his  YouTube channel – hotstepper1976 and see how he prepares for the next world championship at the end of August.
