What’s in Your Gym Bag?

September 2, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Gym Bag Question Mark

After the How to Avoid Sliding on a Bench post I was wondering what kind of things you always bring to the gym?

One thing I use every session is a rubber band for my shoulder warm up.

Foam Roller, band, lacrosse ball, lifting shoes, towel, multiple pairs of lifting straps, bandages, pens, diary, allergy tablets, water bottle, shaker bottle, hydralyte sachets and $2 coins

Sounds good. How do you like the hydralyte sachets? I never paid much attention to electrolytes before.

Apart from the slight salty taste, I really like them. Much better than bottled drinks full of sugar. I find they are really good for my heavy days, or especially before/during comps as I tend to dehydrate myself before hand.

I do train at home, thus I do not need a gym bag. But have a “toolbox”, which I would empty into my gym bag if I had to train in a normal gym.

    foam roller
    massage stick
    lacrosse ball
2 tennis balls in a sock
    rubber band
    shaker
    water bottle
    chalk

    • GregorATG says

      September 2, 2012 at 14:09

Pretty much the same here. I always train at home and would have to pack a lot of stuff.

I would add in some Fat Gripz to all that. They apply better to some dumbbells over other though.

    Weightlifting shoes
    Knee sleeves
    Wrist wraps
    Water bottle
    Towel
    Training journal
    Pen
Some kind of snack (usually apple or banana)
Don’t need chalk cos that’s at the gym and I foam roll/massage etc at home.

      September 2, 2012 at 14:48

A gym that allows chalk? Nice! Just how it should be.

Sticky spray just for stones or do you use it for anything else?

      • Adam says

        September 2, 2012 at 17:33

I use the sticky spray mainly for tyre flips. My hands sweat like mad so stops it from slipping!

Barely anything compared to you hoarders. Just a towel I never even use apart from on the bench. Water bottle. Wallet with my access card thing in it. Straps that I rarely use. That’s it. Sometimes I bring my shoes in my bag if I have walked, but usually I just cycle in my adipowers because I hate changing shoes.

Weightlifting shoes, straps, lacrosse ball, belt, tape, access card, notebook, pen.
Sometimes also running shoes if I’m doing sprints or box jumps or something like that.

    Athletic tape (for thumbs)
    Callus file
Lacrosse ball (for HEAVY soft tissue mobilization)
Bicycle inner tube (ala K-Star’s home-made VooDoo bands)

    • GregorATG says

      September 2, 2012 at 21:32

Callus file is a good idea.

I used to have some sandpaper in my gym bag, back when I was climbing regularly.

Cracking down on caffeine will be the last straw that breaks the camels back. They better don’t do that!

Does the job well, isn’t that what it was designed for anyway, a quick way to seal wounds in the field for battlefield medics?
