2012 World’s Strongest Man Power Stairs

October 2, 2012 By Gregor Winter

The 2012 World’s Strongest Man is … a Lithuanian.

But which one?

Here is Big Z going against Lalas in the Head-to-Head Power Stairs to determine the WSM 2012.

Prior to the last event Vytautas Lalas was ahead by only 0.5 pts.

Here is their heat filmed from Lalas’ side.

So the World’s Strongest Man 2012 is … Zydrunas Savickas.

He made it in 41.4 secs. Not the fastest time in the event (Hafthor Bjornsson 36.82 secs).

Lalas made 11 steps.

Complete Results Here via Spidertrack

Shaw (50.55 secs) vs. Bjornsson (36.82 secs)

Radzikowski (13 steps) vs. Jenkins (43.77 secs)

Arsjo (10 steps) vs Caron (74.84 secs)

What was interesting was that both Z and Bjornsson technically didn’t follow the rules. All the athletes were told explicitly to go to the outiside weight first then the inside and the middle last. Everybody else followed the rules but Z and the Icelander both did the middle one second. Now they were by far the best and i think it would have ended up that way if they had gone in the correct order but i think the times might have been slightly slower.

I saw Colin Bryce telling Bjornsson of his error. I didn’t see anybody correct Savickas.

Many in the crowd noticed and we kinda of “ohhhed” but the refs made no comment about it
