Hysen Pulaku on Maxing Out Every Day

June 6, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Hysen Pulaku about maxing out every day.

I ask uncle: “Uncle, how much today?”

He says: “Just maximum, everyday”. And I don’t ask more.

And he has some ambitious plans for the near future.

Abadjiev said he needs to do a 180kg Snatch and 220kg Clean & Jerk before the Olympics (not caring about body weight).

Man this is going to be exciting.

Forget that I tried the whole max everyday and I was not clean and still it was brutal.  Not for me thats for sure, high risk of injury imo.

You just have to modify it. Such as a total of only 6-8 sessions a week, once you work up to that of course. And for it to have a shot of working a “max” should be something that isn’t too hard, can keep a good position, no need to get pysched, and maybe a bit off before the set you would miss at. With good recovery I think it would be possible. Maybe go as “heavy as you can” 3-4 times if you’re young. Other sessions perhaps do the power versions with a little less volume. So you’ll be working with near max on the power versions but strictly, they are probably 30kg+ off. Thats quite a bit to help if you want good recovery. That and every 2-3 take a lighter week. Less frequency(if doing 8 cut to 4 or something), less volume(work up simply, do 1 attempt etc) and lower intensity(maybe replace BS with FS, full lifts with lighter power versions, doing less weight though still “heavy” for those particular exercises). Don’t do too much work, be young, eat a lot, stretch, get mashed…. I think it would actually be possible. Than again what I described is not exactly “bulgarian”. Its a way, I think, that could work. You keep the programming ideas the same, yet change the GUIDELINES(i.e. defining a “max”) and do a little less. Thats the “clean bulgarian method”. Will still be anything but easy, definetly mangagble though. If you truly listen to your body, I think it can work!

Sounds like a reasonable approach to “ease” into it.

I train for strongman and squat everyday; but I do different variations on each day, back squats, front squats, paused front squats and box squats. Not to mention the squatting work from atlas stone loading.

It is doable (and I am clean) With enough rest and adequate nutrition (as well as the correct mindset) I genuinely believe anything is possible.

That sounds great and pretty much confirms what I wanted to hear.
