Russian weightlifter Dmitry Klokov has withdrawn from the Olympics for unspecified medical reasons, the country’s sports minister said Saturday.
Vitaly Mutko announced Saturday the 29-year-old athlete would not be able to compete, but did not disclose the reason other than to say it was a medical issue.
Update: Head of the Russian Weightlifting Federation, Sergey Syrtsov said that Klokov
re-aggravated an old knee injury. And then the knee, which pushes the clean and jerk. It is the front leg (left) that is very ill,”
Update: Randall Strossen tweets that Klokov was apparently positive.
