Aurimas Didzbalis Tests Positive – Out of Olympics

July 11, 2012 By Gregor Winter

94kg Lithuanian powerhouse Aurimas Didzbalis lost his European silver medal.

He failed a doping test, thus costing his country its only Olympic spot.

In the statement, the Lithuanian weightlifting federation said that its international counterpart had on July 6 reported that a urine sample taken from the 21-year-old was found to contain a substance that exceeded an admissible rate.

Bummer.

Man that sucks I really enjoyed watching him also.  He is very young so I feel he will be back though.   Did they say what he exactly tested positive for?

He is still not on the IWF list. What’s up with that?

Only the A test have bin analzed, and the B is not going to be analzed before after the olympic is Completed. Sow he is going to miss the olympic and can get 4 years. He is only 21 years and can be back when he is 25.

This is saddening. I don’t know if its me just being patriotic, though Lithuania really needed him. He has been doing quite well in the past few months, it really sucks to see him test positive. Lithuania hasn’t won a single medal in WL at the olympics I belive 🙁 I can only make assumptions, I think it might have something to do with the development of WL in that country? Lithuania only has a population of a little more than 3 million people that I know of. If any of these rumors about how smaller countries have it rougher, I think this is a good demonstration. It really sucks though, I wish for the day when Lithuania is very good at weightlifting internationally. Everyone talks how Kazakhstan is amazing at this sport with only 16 million, Bulgaria is like 6-7 million, yet Lithuania fairs pretty well and is such a small country.

Getting caught is getting caught. Nothing you can do once it happens. I only hope to see more of him in the future. He is a joy to watch when he lifts.

      I feel your pain.

As you said, it’s tough for small nations. Plus I imagine he is a big role model there.

But he is young and will come back.

Watch out for the “via” link at the bottom of the post.

Probably too small. I will make it more obvious.
