Flat Feet, Collapsed Arches Mobility WOD

August 10, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Kelly Starrett talks about fixing your feet again.

Your feet are on the front line, being the first point of contact. Collapsed arches can get you in trouble and cause a lot of problems upstream (knees caving in etc).

Remember, Justin also had a post about feet a while back. Since then I have been trying to walk with my feet straight. This is harder than you would think. You have to constantly remind yourself to do it right. It almost feels like you are walking with your toes pointing inwards whan in fact they are barely straight.

Main Point: Walking / standing like a duck = Squatting above parallel

Interesting, but where did you see this main point?

It was a joke about all people that do half squats.

Am I the only one who has no idea what Starrett is saying most of the time? I’m kind of sick of his surfer-bro west-coast slang talk. Hopefully his book won’t be written like how he talks.

Can someone decipher this video for me and give me a little breakdown of what he is saying here that we are supposed to do? Thanks.

      Hi, Asclepius,

what part specifically didn’t you get?

Best is to try it for yourself. Stand up with your feet pointing straight forward. Now externally rotated your legs. Do you feel how the arch in your foot rises?

i think we does well, don’t forget he is a physiotherapist. He has the dilemma of trying to keep his integrity professional in terms of creditable content, while communicating with the average joe. I’ve read a few physio books out of curiosity and this guy is pretty gifted because he removes that upper class conservative garage that most ego driven authors use to prove their status in society. This is why he’s become so successful because he’s able to come down to our level, giving him a less threatening persona.

Squatting also helps put baby in an optimal position and reduces “pushing time” because it shortens the birth canal pilnapadystės gydymas. since having a baby is basically “shitting a watermelon” squatting to birth has the exact same benefit of squatting to poop.
