Ivan Abadjiev Returns to Bulgaria – Not! See Update

October 3, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Bulgaria …

After his 2 year stint in the US Ivan Abadjiev will return to Bulgaria.

Not sure if I understand the Google translate gibberish correctly, but I think he will coach together with Ivan Ivanov (current coach).

Update: See this comment by Alex Krychev from Podium Gold:

I don’t know where Mr. Petrakiev gets his information, but Mr. Abadjiev is still working at Podium Gold Weightlifting Academy in Danville, Northern California. He is on a working visa till 2016. As far as me, living in the US, it was 1978, during the World championship in Gettysburg, where I was the assistant coach of the Bulgarian team, decided to not go back to Bulgaria and applied for political asylum.

Is he even allowed to? I thought some sanctions prevented him from holding an official national team coach position? Maybe Ivanov will be the official head coach and Abadjiev will still be the mastermind.

I train at Podium Gold so this was news to me. Scroll down that article to see two comments, one by Alex Krychev (who owns Podium Gold) and another person correcting the author’s article.
