Man this must be from a while ago… I thought Jared Enderton already left Broz’s gym

No this is very recent. Jared visited just for a week or so.

It’s “curious” how the coach has the worst technique ever. On a side note, Mendes has lost quite some weight; good for him. All that fat in the superheavy is completely useless, unhealthy, and just adds more weight to be lifted by the legs.

that’s why all the dominant superheavies throughout history have been extremely lean, right?

Mendes looks like he could make 85kg easily.

      He’s 5’9 iirc, so I think he could be a lean 94kg.

So many misses… How can doing 15-20 straight misses really be that beneficial?

Good on Jared for making that last snatch

Well, Broz’s philosophy is that the more misses you do at near-maximal weights (or just very heavy weights), the more you are able to learn where you messed up. I.e., you realize you didn’t pull yourself under fast enough, or you realize you are missing in front slightly. Other couches believe that you will just keep messing up with the same things no matter how many attempts you make. To each his own, and their proof will be in the gold medal-filled pudding.

        It’s a bulgarian weightlifting philosophy.

John Broz was coached by Antonio Krastev

I think there is no special training philosophy at work here.

Just a little competition among friends. At least that’s how I saw it.

I guess Mendes is off the roids… Didn’t he snatch 207 kg a year ago?

Actually, 23 months ago. To me it seems like a decade has passed.

Only thing i remembered from this:

    1) many misses

    2) Mendes lost a loooot of weight. Is it because of injury, diet or roids? Probably a mix of it all.
Broz said that he would be a -105 kg but the strenght loss is remarkable.

His strength loss isn’t really surprising when you consider what he was doing when off steroids as a 105+ and the fact that he is only training once a week right now.
