Tour of David Rigert’s Weightlifting Academy in Taganrog

July 1, 2013 By Gregor Winter

Vladislav Rigert and Dmitry Klokov did a tour of the famous training hall that saw countless amazing lifts over the past years and decades – David Rigert’s Weightlifting Academy in Taganrog.

Update: Tour of the Ruza Training Camp.

Khadzhimurat Akkaev also makes an appearance. As you know from his recent interview and his profile a while back, he is living there almost year round, together with his cat Virgil.

If you can help with a translation of the main points, please leave a comment below.

In Part 1 they show the training hall and mention some of the super stars that train/ed there.

Thanks to Evgeny for translating that “He also mentioned that Zakharevich dropped in after beach when he was on vacation and did 200kg jerk from stands … in slippers.”

Part 2 tours the living quarters.

I wonder who is the little older guy who appears towards end of the second vid. ? Perhaps an old-time 52 or 56 champion from Rigert’s era ?……….. all the names Gnatov , Vahkonin etc !

During the 1st video as they were touring main training hall Rigert mentions the names of those who trained there: he listed Chigishev, Chemerkin, Berestov, Lapikov, Akkaev, Constantinov, Aukhadov, Koklyaev, Perepechenov, Pisarevkiy, Mongushkov, Kozlov and other name I could distinguish.

He also mentioned that Zakharevish dropped in after beach when he was on vacation and did 200kg jerk from stands … in slippers.

Zacharevich 200kg jerk in slippers? If he snatched 200 in socks I would believe it!! He was beyond great.

Indeed. Has his father’s charisma and traps.
