2014 Russian Cup Videos

February 16, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Here are the recordings of the 2014 Russian Cup.

This competition served as a gauge for the 2014 Europeans and there were some big names on the start list.

Update: Added a translation of an interview with Venkov (head coach) below.

85kg Recording:

  1. Artem Okulov: 165 + 211 = 376
  2. Adam Maligov: 170 +205 =375

Update: Read Adam’s Interview on ATG here and Artem’s Interview here.

(Okulov’s 211kg C&J is at 1:06:00)

Antoniy Savchuk’s 231kg Clean & Jerk (18 years old, 2012 European Youth Champion in +94).

He went 175, 181, 184 + 220, 226, 231 = 415kg

Alexey Lovchev’s 240kg Clean & Jerk

Interview with Alexandr Venkov (Russian Head Coach). Thanks to Juri for translating.

First question was if this was really a selection comp for euros cause the results were not that good in the lighter weight classes: they just don’t have good athletes at the moment other than Oleg Chen.

Venkov says it’s sad that in regions where the average height is smaller WL is not popular so they don’t have good small lifters for the lower weight classes and that’s it.

So they will probably only bring lifters from 69kg (Oleg Chen) and up to international comps.

Razmik Unanyan, the 77kg winner, is very promising he said. He is also happy with the Okulov vs Maligov duel in the 85kg. Both will take Apti’s place in Europeans.

94 is a bit disappointing. 105kg was fun. All 3 medalists will be invited to training camp and have a good chance at coming to Europeans.

I know what I’m doing this weekend!

Hopefully somebody records the Tuesday-Friday sessions and throws them up on Youtube. Doubt I’ll be able to watch those live.

The weekend should be a lot of fun indeed. Let’s hope they get the stream sorted out until then.

Can’t wait to see what Lapikov does.

LIkewise. Can world records be broken at this competition? I’d like to see him snatch 215.

      • Gregor says

        February 12, 2014 at 19:25

No they can’t. There will be no drug tests there.

Also I don’t expect Lapikov to be in World Record (Peak) shape at this point in time. It would not make sense when the focus is on worlds.

          February 14, 2014 at 15:41

From the look of past training videos, he didn’t have to be in peak shape to snatch 215! But that may indeed be wishful thinking.

    Glad to hear. Sounds promising.

I will link to them if / once they become available

        Thanx!

  7. Chris says

    February 13, 2014 at 23:48

I wonder what kind of shape Klokov will be in? 190 seems to be there in the snatch, but what about the C&J? 210+ looked pretty heavy in his seminar videos. Hopefully he performs well. I wouldn’t think he’d be available for EWC with all his upcoming seminars. Maybe Russian Championships though?

  8. Chris says

    February 13, 2014 at 23:50

94-105+ are going to be some good sessions. Wonder what kind of shape everyone is in? Most of these guys have been training solid since Russian Championships. Demanov recovering from injury? Exciting!

    Any videos of 85kg session?

polovnikov injured his elbow and shoulder while he was in the us, so he wasnt at his best.

  12. Chris says

    February 15, 2014 at 22:12

No klokov? Maybe he didn’t cut?

  13. Adam says

    February 16, 2014 at 11:23

    What happened to Chingiz??

  14. Interested Consumer says

    February 16, 2014 at 19:51

Anybody know what kind of bar/bumpers brand they used? All bumpers seem to be the same width from 10kg all the way to 25 kg.

    • Afferbeck says

      February 17, 2014 at 10:18

DHS training plates are like that if you wanted to buy some uniform width plates

  15. Covero says

    February 17, 2014 at 00:57

    Wtf happened with Lapikov?

    • Kevin says

      February 17, 2014 at 18:41

I am told his thigh or hip was bothering him.

      • Kevin says

        February 24, 2014 at 14:27

Then again, maybe he did not want to push it. Maybe his goal was merely to finish top three so that he would be invited to the team to train for the Europeans. At his age, he needs to choose his battles wisely.

  16. Evan says

    February 18, 2014 at 03:23

So wait, what happened with Apti?

    • Gregor says

      February 18, 2014 at 10:04

As I mentioned in an earlier post, he didn’t need to lift here. His focus is on moving up to the 94kg class and preparing for worlds. In a recent interview (he was at the Russian Cup as a visitor) he said all is going well preparation without injury so far.

      • Evan says

        February 18, 2014 at 13:05

I see. I apologize for my miny fanboy heart attack.

Lovchev’s 2nd 200 snatch, he dropped hella quick.
