Barbell Complexes – Build Muscle, Lose Fat

September 7, 2011 By Gregor Winter

Justin from 70sbig.com wrote a little post about Barbell Complexes and why they’re awesome.

Working big compound movements with full range of motion on all joints will give you a whole body workout like no other.

They can provide a dose of high intensity conditioning stress, yet also take the major joints through a full range of motion with high repetitions. The higher repetitions will lie in the hypertrophy range allowing the maintenance, and even improvement, of lean body even when dropping body fat.

Pick an appropriate weight (Justin uses 60kg/135 lbs in the video below).

Make it challenging for yourself.

5 rounds, 5 reps of each exercise

  • Power Clean
  • Overhead Press
  • Front Squat
  • Romanian Deadlift (RDL)
  • Bent over Barbell Row

For more sample dumbbell and barbell complexes check javoreks complexes.

For someome who wants to lose fat mainly, and if possible shape muscles a little bit, would you recommend working out exclusively with barbell complexes? I really need a simple and time efficient workout regime so I can stick to it in the long term.
However, I see that barbell complexes are usually suggested as a complement to traditional strength workouts…
