Chinese Weightlifting Team 2013 Worlds Preparation

June 24, 2013 By Gregor Winter

After we have been spoiled with Klokov’s video updates here is a look into the Chinese training camp.

A CNTV5 news video about Chinese Weightlifting Team with Lu Xiaojun, Lu Haojie and co.

Update: Here is a translation of what the coach and Liao Hui are saying, thanks to happy Chinese boy.

Liao Hui pissed his coach off and now his coach won’t even look at him. His coach is usually really relaxed about Liao Hui’s training and usually lets him do his own thing when working out.

But with championship season coming around the corner he feels that Hui is playing around too much and as a more senior athlete he feels that he continues to making the same mistakes. When his coach gets mad about him messing around, he straightens his act up and is more serious.

No matter how playful and friendly a relationship between athletes, coach does not want them messing around so close to a championship. Lu Xiaojun senses the tension and runs away as soon as his workout is over. Liao Hui admits fault and apologizes to his coach. Because championships season is soon (2 months?) there are more people at the training facility.

Athletes escape to the Beijing training facility to get away and focus on their training. Ironically the more people training together, the rowdier they get.

One coach sees this as a distraction and too much playing gets in the way of training. The other coach thinks that this will help the team move towards their ultimate goal, the Olympics. Liao Hui likes to show off and perform well when other people are watching.

Update: YouTube version.

Looks like Tian Tao might be at the 2013 worlds for 85kg?

    Oh boy…

Almost 211 at 77. I expect amazing things to come from the chinese and russian mens team in coming years. Same with Iran and even Egypt. Tarek Yehia and Tian Tao will put up big clean and jerks.

Hopefully Tian Tao fills out to be a great 85. With his current numbers, he would already be a good 85. Also, I foresee Lu Haojie also moving up sooner or later… for injury prevention and for more reserve strength in the cleans – clean recoveries seem to be his current limiter.

I think they will keep Lu Haojie as a 77 to be Lu Xiaojun’s backup for this olympic cycle. From what I’ve seen of the national games this year and last year there is no other good 77 other than Su Dajin but we know he is very very inconsistent. Who knows though, maybe there will be another Liao Hui ala 2008 and just bust through as a junior.
