Hahah, I instantly knew what gym that was the moment I saw the pictures on the wall, didn’t even have to hit play. That gym is only like 35-45 minutes from where I currently live. I contacted one of the brothers that coaches there, sadly I was never able to make it out. School makes it hard to travel and money is a little tight.

      Ha! Small world.

I am sure it wasn’t the last time Fernando trained there. So you might have a chance to train with him in the future.

I wouldn’t really doubt it. I believe Reis is currently training under coach Ma, I know for a fact he was at one point in time. The guys who run that gym have trained under Ma, for quite some time I am assuming, it would only make sense.

He is in fact under Coach Ma. He’s at Lindenwood University at the moment training and Coach Ma took over that coaching position. He and the rest of the team were in Schaumburg, IL for the Mid-American Weightlifting Championship. Asesumykolas if you’re looking for places in the area to train let me know. I have a huge amount of contacts in the Chicagoland area and can help you out.

            Thanks Angie.

Also “Schaumburg” sounds more like a place in Bavaria.

Gregor, strangely enough some of the Chicago suburbs seem to have a weird fascination with Bavaria. Definitely some imitations of what I guess I would call Bavarian buildings. Hahah! 🙂

Yeah, that is what I thought. I am somewhat familiar where Schaumburg is, well, at least woodfield mall. I haven’t actually “trained” in a long time, its been almost a month since I’ve done anything except stretch. Even then for the the last few weeks of actual lifting it was all squatting. Basically a complete starter right now. If you would happen to know any places to train that would be great. I am out in the Napperville/Aurora area. Thanks if you’re able to help!

At the moment the closest place I can refer you to is actually CrossFit Warrenville, there are several weightlifting coaches out there now and at least one that I have worked with personally. Otherwise I would recommend CrossFit Rise in Schaumburg. Rise has a great lifting program and two lifting clubs actually train at their facility. I would also recommend, since you are already familiar with them, heading to Superior Athletic Advantage in Barrington. I know Schaumburg and Barrington can be quite the drive for you but I assure you it would be worth the time. If these options don’t work for you let me know and I can get you in contact with even more locations to train but I gave you the closest and the best places to get guidance.

Wow, seriously wow. That crossfit is only about 5 minutes away from where I live. I didn’t know Warrenville had a crossfit! I know I should call them, though since you seem to know more than I do, I’ll ask you… what I can tell from their website is that it is a typical cf box. I don’t see it listed anywhere if it would be possible to ONLY do weightlifting. To be completely honest, I am only interested in WL, not crossfit. Though if you would suggest that as a good gym Ill take your word for it. Such a short drive(probably could even bike there) would really save gas in comparison to driving to Barrington or yorkville(I think kyle cook’s dad has a gym out there?), which are all 45+ minute drives. I have heard of Rise; considered it at one point, because it seems like a lot of wl’ers train there.

Ideally the warrenville crossfit would work best, though my major concern is would it be good for someone who is really interested in wl?

Thanks for all the help, seriously!

CF Warrenville is starting up a weightlifting program in the next few weeks so it would be to your benefit to at least call them. Contact Nate Steele or Josh Simpson there. Otherwise I would recommend at least once a week to head to Schaumburg, Barrington, or Yorkville (the Cooks run Fox Valley Weightlifting Club). Yes some very good lifters train at Rise including Shane Maier, one of the top supers in the US. If you want to leave me your email address (or send it to Gregor and he can send it to me) we can stop clogging up Gregor’s comment section and I can help you further that way. I’m always looking to help out local lifters and I also send out email updates to the area about upcoming weightlifting events.

I send Angie your email address and removed it from the comments so that scrapers and spam bots won’t see it.
