Then and Now – David Morgan Weightlifter

December 23, 2011 By Gregor Winter

David Morgan, 3 time Olympian, 5 time Commonwealth Games winner looks back at his career and casually C&J 150 kg for another Masters World Record.

Update: here is an interview with him on the Weightlifting World Podcast.

And here he is winning the 1986 Commonwealth  Games 82.5 kg.
(also note Borat sneaking into the competition at 1:48)

Regarding that era of weightlifting a reader sent in this information:

Guy Greavette (see him lifting in the 90 kg here) – a name you will probably notice as someone who has latched on to Canadian weightlifting again to coach at international events – is featured here, along with several of his cronies. You can find a more complete indictment in the following report of the Dubin Inquiry, or Canada’s late-80’s witch hunt into PED use in sport, post-Ben Johnson. Also incidentally, many of the elite weightlifters who turned positives in the 80’s can now be found in the coaching ranks in Quebec and elsewhere.

It is wordy, but it is a very good read.  The most pertinent material to Weightlifting is in Part 1, Ch.5: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

And on that note… there were 8 cases of positive tests at the 2011 Worlds.

Out of the 8 cases, there are 4 that involve anabolic steroids, and 4 that involve stimulants.
