Does anyone know of any snatch/variation heavier than this? 220kg is craaaaazy

I think I remember reading in Artie Dreschler’s weightlifting encyclopedia that Antonio Krastev’s best snatch (in training) was 222.5kg.

so fast and solid, unbelievable for such a crazy weight i don’t know if the record of the video is recent, but if it is, it means that he’s in a good shape, so he could push salimi very far…it ‘ll be a great battle in a few days.

    • Kevin says

      November 7, 2014 at 18:30

It is recent. I believe it was somewhere between October 24-28 because I have known about it at least since October 29.

    • Anton Mårtensson says

      November 8, 2014 at 18:48

The heaviest snatch on video this is. I personally don’t think Salimi can win, i think he will hold his ground in the snatch but he just isn’t good enough in the clean and jerk to take on Lovchev if he is in good form (Which he obviously is) however this is just my personal opinion and i am very aware that Salimi too has clean and jerked massive weights. But recently he has not looked convincing enough for me to think he will win and regain his title.

krastev’s 216 was the heaviest snatch on video if i recall. rezazedeh and salimi have done 214 and 215…nothing bigger than that. 220 off blocks above the knee…..ridiculous. made it look easy too! i’d love to see him put 227 on there and try it…500lbs snatch?

Behdad Salimi did 217kg in one of those national comps, there’s another angle somewhere but here’s this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnWeI6V4OHM

Gregor’s made this handy thing: https://www.allthingsgym.com/biggest-snatches-in-weightlifting-history/ and there’s also this awesome page: http://worldweightlifting.narod.ru/Mens.htm

A 500lb snatch would be epic!

From 2011. He was/is in better shape for the Asian Games which is very important for Asians.

I see him doing 208 + 258 (misses at 213 and 265) = 466+ because he claims he is not in best shape. By the way I believe he is 26 years old

    • Anton Mårtensson says

      November 8, 2014 at 18:51

He probably could do it, would just be amazing to see.

The total ever 466kg by Taranenko can be beaten by this kid, only 25 years old

    • grobpote says

      November 7, 2014 at 17:09

You meant 475 kg, right? Because that was what Taranenko did. 210-265 in Camberra,Australia.

      • Beto says

        November 7, 2014 at 18:15

Oh Thanks man, it is 475

i know its unofficial, but the old taranenko-records are as well.

          • Tom Bennett says

            November 9, 2014 at 06:31

not really…Tarenenko did his in international competition. This was a local competition-big difference.

  7. Alexey says

    November 7, 2014 at 17:56

Well, Chigishev also snatched 220 from blocks in his prime.

    • Tom Bennett says

      November 7, 2014 at 19:49

and beat Rezazedeh in the snatch in competition! 2005 I think?

  8. Tom Bennett says

    November 7, 2014 at 19:46

wait he did 210 off the blocks and then snatched 210 in competition…now he did 220…whoa…this is getting very interesting.

    • Hulk Hogan says

      November 7, 2014 at 20:31

That’s what I was thinking too! Most people can Sn a little more off high blocks than the floor so he may have just pushed this exercise a little more aggressively than he did when he got 210, still exciting to think about though. He’s done 212 recently in competition, is the WR in danger?

Probably will depend on the competition.

      • Tom Bennett says

        November 7, 2014 at 22:29

If I remember correctly it looked like he wanted to go for a double with 210…so maybe 220 is a “normal” max for him to snatch around 210-215?

Honestly, I’m not a weightlifter so I really don’t know what I’m talking about:)

      • Anton Mårtensson says

        November 8, 2014 at 18:50

It would be amazing to see a proper WR snatch battle develop between Lovchev and Salimi, both very big snatchers.

  9. Matjus Mäger says

    November 7, 2014 at 20:19

    This is absolutely amazing

  10. R. says

    November 8, 2014 at 04:34

What an athlete! Amazing power. He should re-do that with “proper” setup with 4 reds. Hell, let it be 4 reds and collars…

  11. grobpote says

    November 8, 2014 at 09:32

This Lovchev-Salimi-Albegov trio is like the Taranenko-Kurlovich-Pisarenko was. Absolutely amazing!!! I have never thought it could happen again.

    • Anton Mårtensson says

      November 8, 2014 at 18:54

Sadly Albegov reports he isn’t in the best shape for this years worlds, really sad. But we will see what he can do.

      • grobpote says

        November 9, 2014 at 18:20

I thought the russians might give a chance to Chingiz but it seems his CnJ is too week and Albegov can beat him even in bad shape.Such a shame. 213 kg snatch and doesn’t fit in the team? I think it’s a new world record :)))

        • Tom Bennett says

          January 26, 2015 at 00:12

well and Albegov, even in bad shape won the worlds! Such a shame lovchev bombed—he looked poised to crush everyone.
