Can anyone explain why the knees turn inwards on thd way up I’ve a lot people lift like this. Is this a purposeful technique?

it’s not a technique. his knees collapsing in a squat could cause some real damage.

I’ve seen this at near maximal weight with other elite lifters. Hysen Pulaku, for example, demonstrates the same “knees in” motion when he stands up with heavy cleans.

As a PT, it’s incredibly painful for me to watch people do that. I teach all of my patients to squat knees over or slightly outside of their toes. Any time I have an athlete come to clinic with chronic knee pain, I look at them do a BW squat and they usually squat with knees caving in. It’s a sign of several strength, ROM, and motor control problems that put too much stress on the medial structures of the knee.

That being said, Igor Lukanin and Hysen Pulaku are not normal humans. Whatever works for them.

      LOL
If that’s the case, then I wish I was “weak” enough to BS 280kg for 3 reps!

TONS of elite lifters exhibit knock-knees to some degree at heavy weights.
So, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

If it’s extreme, you should probably do something about it, but if it’s just a slight inwards motion on the ascent, then I doubt it’s a big deal.

Also, I’ve noticed this from personal experience: one is obliged to push the knees out on the descent so that one can properly sit back and squat “in between the thighs”. To reverse the motion on ascent, it is therefore logically necessary for the knees to come back in. Maybe not PUSHED in purposefully, but it’s certain that actively pushing the knees out on the ascent is not a good technique.

Google translate his comment section :). “It is light weight for me”. haha!

Yeah he said his max is about 360kg so this would be near 80% of his max. He might have done a lot more volume prior to this set or is just extra sore so keeping the volume little light. It really is shocking he can’t find a team he is around a top 5 lifter right now.

The knees are of little importance when pushing human maximums for the sake of sport. Parroting common advice about knee tracking is out of context here.

Zach, he trains in Serbia at the moment. From what I heard, he might represent Serbia. I also heard he drinks a lot.

You say is not true. He must be your competitor in the competition, so you do not love him?))) Visit him on Facebook and see its location!

I don’t know if my previous comment was published, I can’t see it. Anyway, I’ll say it twice. That’s the Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) club in Belgrade on the video and all the others. You can see the coach Srdja (fat shirtless man) of the club in one of the videos. On Igor’s facebook you can find pictures of him competing in a Serbian competition. Several people from that club told me he trains there.
