Paul Carter Barbell Curls for 160 Reps

August 23, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Here is something I want to see in the next CrossFit games!

Lately Paul Carter has been posting a lot about doing empty barbell curls for super high reps. He calls them Poundstone curls.

Of course, I had tried those as a finisher of a workout. But I couldn’t get to 100. After 50 my form went south too much and the whole thing was just using momentum. Hella pump!

Here is Paul doing 160 reps! while The Trooper is playing in the background.

Oh, and he even got Jim Wendler to do 100 reps during his recent visit.

Update: 29.5kg x100

something like 30 broken reps… did it 2 times.. I guess it wasnt clever to do this after high rep pullups… I was pretty much fried.. I’ll try next week in deload, I expect at least 50 lol.

          Nice effort though.

I did mine as a finisher also. Might throw in another set after squats tomorrow.

I got 80 reps with a few breathers towards the end. Arms were wrecked for like 5 days.

Comes from Strongman athlete Derek Poundstones “pain tolerance training”. Derek has done this type of training with curls, shrugs etc… there are a few videos and articles out there from him about it.
