Sohrab Moradi 185kg Snatch 2016 Pan American Championships

June 8, 2016 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Colombia …

Sohrab Moradi (94kg, Iran) snatched 185kg in the training hall at Pan Ams 🙂

He is in the same boat as Andrei Rybakou was at Asian Championships. Both needed a second qualification event for Rio 2016. So he was allowed to “compete” here (weighing in is enough). Remember Andrei was put into the B group and did a 120kg token snatch so as to not be on live TV and steal the show of any asian weightlifters.

Thanks to @Rouuzmorales for letting me repost this.

Repost from ? @rouuzmorales Sohrab Moradi @sohrabmoradi8365 @sohrabmoradi35 (94kg, Iran) snatching freaking 185kg in the training hall at Pan Am Championships! The world record in the 94kg is 188kg… Sohrab has done 200kg Snatches and 240kg Clean and Jerks in Training (Videos on allthingsgym.com). Why is an Iranian competing at pan am championships you ask? It’s because of the stupid rule that requires athletes to “compete” (showing up for weigh ins is enough) at two qualifying events in order to be eligible for the Olympics in Rio. So Sohrab is in the same situation as Andrei Rybakou was in when he lifted at Asian Championships (he had to lift in the B group by request from IWF so as to not steal the show). #snatch

I couldn’t find him at the results of the Pan Am. So he didn’t start after all?

He did start, just did some token lifts (144kg snatch, then scratch)

Ah like Rybakou you mentioned. Sure is a long way to travel for those token lifts. At least the 94kg seems up to grabs for him as most of the anticipated competitors are out of his way now.
