In interviews he has said he has his sights on the 2016 Olympics, so expect to see more from him weightlifting-wise.

      Isn’t he lifetime banned?

That’s what I thought, and perhaps Google translate is misleading me. It actually looks like he is the historian for the Federal Doping agency there?!

Lol @ Russia. A lifter caught twice for drugs in weightlifting is now a doping control agent! Well at least he has experience in attempting to circumvent testing. IWF website says he was caught twice in 2005 and 2011 but his ban from 2011 expires in 2013? The official rules state the second offense is a lifetime ban but maybe the circumstances allowed him to escape that?

Another interesting thing is that he was caught for deca and anavar in 2011.

That’s pretty strange. Are there some circumstances that would make this second offense different?

Whatever he was caught in 2005 with (not listed) might be a ‘soft’ offence or depending on the competition could be considered a lesser offence. Perhaps there were different rules in 2005 and they changed? I know they recently dropped the 4year first time bans to 2 years. Either way weightlifting has the harshest doping penalties of any sport in the world. Ironic considering they are pretty much mandatory to push the boundaries of the human limit.

are we sure this video is actually recent? I remember seeing a video of him squatting at a powerlifting competition a few years ago. maybe this video is a re-post?

That was several years back–he squatted 290 at that meet. At this meet, the 2012 WPC World Cup he squatted 305, benched 130, and deadlifted 280. Link to competition results here:http://www.worldpowerliftingcongress.com/2012WorldCup.xls
I keep fairly close tabs on PL records–this one was set in October, but only recently did footage of the lift surface.

wow, 130 bench, what a wuss (kidding)

His bench seems to indicate he still trains mostly like a weightlifter, although he did bench 142.5 kgs@ 80 at the 2012 IPA worlds.

He dislocated his elbow some years ago, maybe that is the reason for such low numbers in the bench pres?? And this guy was a Master of Sports at a very young age.

Yep, he was master of sport at 12 years old,
      44.5kg bw 77.5kg snatch, 95kg c&j
      at 15years old: 56kg class, 117kg/150kg
      18/19years old: in 69kg class at 66.75kg bodyweight, 150kg/192.5kg

Absolute beast, sadly I have to say my lifts are not much higher than when he was 12!
He was coached from 7 years old by his father, who was a coach and master of sport
