Daniel Godelli 205kg Clean & Jerk + 170kg Snatch

October 19, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Albania (or is it still the from the training camp in Greece?) …

Daniel Godelli (77kg) gets (what I think is) a 205kg Clean & Jerk with Hysen watching in the background.

Last month at the Albanian national championships he did 166 + 192 (via). As of now he also has the top entry total (377kg) for the 2014 Worlds 77kg.

that’s strong, but the c&j would have to be red lightet in competition… he is not in control over the bar imo

You just know that someone’s going to chime in with this… if it was a competition he would’ve held onto it longer. He dropped it when he was satisfied with it.

Personally I don’t think that he would be able to control it any longer.

That was a very difficult jerk recovery and in the end, the barbell never stopped moving (twisting) and his knees barely stood straight, if at all. It looked like that was all he had in him, down signal or not. But that was one training lift. Whether or not he achieved the minor differences between a very near miss and a good lift on this particular occasion has very little if any bearing on what he will do in competition. Anyway, does anyone know his body-weight during this lift?

although I agree with you that sometimes people can be overly critical of what a lifter is doing in the training environment, in this case I think the criticism is warranted. There is a big difference between a lifter who is complete control and chooses to drop the bar before it is motionless and this. It does not appear that he could have fully controlled that bar even if he wanted to. Just looking at his recovery from the split tells me that he was not nearly as stable as you are implying that he is.

Nope, I wasn’t aware that this would kick off a dicussion that quick…. Anyways I still think he did as much as he could to control the bar, but of course there is no way of knowing it for sure. And as David said, there have been worse lifts counted as valid…

In control or not, we’ll see what he lifts at the worlds. It would be good to see one or two lifters give Lu Xiaojun some competition.

I agree, but to be fair i’ve seen much worse count as a valid lift. Firudun Guliyev’s 194 last year, per example.

I’m hoping for at least Silver for Godelli. I think even gold is reachable with such a weak field. Get ready though to see it from both Albanians, either medal or bomb out. Personal glory + money(they are not compensated well) is a bigger priority than qualification points.
