One Arm Pulling Strength – Magnus Midtbø

November 8, 2011 By Gregor Winter

Magnus Midtbø is an Norwegian Climber.

Like most climbers he has an insane pulling strength. In the video below he bangs out 5 consecutive One Arm Chin Ups (OAC) with One Finger. (Although he can do 11 OACs with the right arm and 7 with the left).

If you are interested in what his training looks like I suggest listening to an interview with him.

Power Quest Podcast #305: Magnus Mitboe (direct link to mp3)
The English interview with Magnus starts at around 11 min in.

Notes:
He mentions the importance of weight training (with free weights) for climbers. Because climbers naturally have stronger pulling muscles he emphasizes the need to train the antagonists.

  • 12 exercises per weight training session an performed  in super sets.
  • Pushing exercises like dumbbell bench presses, DB overhead presses
  • 4 sets of 4 reps for max weight per exercise.

As for core training he performs gymnastics exercises like Body Levers (Dragon Flags) and Hanging Leg Lifts (HLL) with static holds.

They also talk about his diet and supplement choices.
