The Bottle Squat Challenge

February 19, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Germany …

Sandro Ziegler performs rep 1 of the Bottle Squat Challenge.

1 rep, as heavy as you can go, without toppling over the bottles (including unrack/ rack).

Any takers? (Share it on Facebook)

Hmm… looked like the bottle started to fall of when he racked it but the video cut off, haha. How much weight? It looks like a crossfit gym, so I’m assuming some of those are just black bumpers, and that is not 180+ kgs.

Its a weightlifting gym… and he can squat at least 240kg (can be found on the same fb page)… and I dont know what that weight was… but not too little. Plate wise it could be somewhere between 180kg and 200kg.

he lifts for ksc 07 schifferstadt, a club at the 2nd german weightlifting league – definitely no crossfit gym (although newly there is a “athletics”-section, which can be compared to crossfit) . they have furthermore a team in a youth and a masters weightliftingleague.

I wasn’t meaning it was a crossfit gym in some demeaning sense–I just noticed the bumpers weren’t the brightly color-coded Eleiko plates you usually see at an Oly lifting gym, but some looked like black bumpers, which you more typically see at American crossfit gyms, which makes it difficult to tell how much weight it is. If he can squat 240, then I can definitely believe this is 180+. I have squatted 289@88 kgs in wraps and a belt, (powerlifting) and I can easily rep 230+ kgs without wraps (thought I don’t usually go heavy without wraps)–so the reason I was asking is that I think even if he is hitting 180+ I might can beat him! Anyway… let me know how much weight this is, and maybe I’ll give it a shot! I think I can hit 200 kgs like this.

Just squat 220 like that and we declare you as winner.

He is an amatuer weightlifter from my area. I have seen him on some local competitions … I think he gets a total of about 300Kg at below 100 bw, so 180+ squat seems realistic.
