Why do you think he did it with his feet elevated and on plates? For triceps or serratus or chest? Why not a floor press using the barbell.

On plates you can go lower than you would if you were doing push ups on the floor.

Why placing the disc vertically, instead of just laying it flat on his lower back? I guess maybe one answer is because he needs to place the load directly over his scapulae, and the disc will constantly move because of their movement (thus making the exercise uncomfortable) and also the disc would get on the elbows’ way when coming down.
Any other thoughts?
