Ilya Ilyin 241kg Clean & Jerk

August 19, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Kazakhstan …

This one is from Ilya Ilyin’s last “Big Friday” (where he also did the 189kg Snatch).

241kg Clean & Jerk! Yesterday he weighed in at 113.34kg.

This surpasses his pre-London 2012 training PR of 240kg (at 106kg, mentioned in his Klokov Interview).

Follow his Progress with the Ilya Progress Tracker Spreadsheet (includes bodyweight chart).

Update: A week later Ilya Snatched 205kg off Blocks.

Update 29.08.2014: 242kg

Long Video

It also shows his Snatch PR. He missed 188kg twice. Then added 1kg to make 189kg (2:30). He also got under 191 a couple of times.

For the Clean & Jerk He went: 195, 205, 215, 225, 235, 241kg

Update: Frame by Frame Sequence of the Key Positions

More Technique Posters here btw.

It was beautiful. I think he lets his BW go up too high though…

Dude sets a lifetime PR @ 241k (530lbs) and makes it look like a warmup. I think his bodyweight is just fine, and probably has a lot to do with the pharmaceuticals that he is on, and the huge strength gains.

The 113 kg is with clothes and shoes on, pure weight is probably 110 kg

oh…didn’t know that…yeah shoes alone are a kg or so.

Will he likely be competing at 104kg in Rio? Or is it typical to drop 20kgs prior to the olympics?

    • Gregor says

      August 19, 2014 at 22:52

Prior to London he did his 196 + 240kg C&J (link in the post at 106kg), so he knows how to drop a few kilos 🙂

      • grobpote says

        August 19, 2014 at 23:12

True ,but it meant less kilos on the competition too. Almost by 20. But of course he’s the winner so far so he knows better. I would be interested to see Nurudinov nowadays.

          He is droping to 105

Greatest weightlifter of all time. He could dominate any weight category from 85 to super.

Not the super. But the rest of it,yeah 🙂

You guys are not paying attention… He’s still 6kg under the world record, which the same guy has “Andrei Aramnau” has hit 4kg over his own world record total this year in the 105’s. Sooo calm down

          August 20, 2014 at 00:31

Don’t you think he can C&J 240 in competion from here to 2 years? I believe he will have the C&J record at least, and will be close to that 200kg snatch

          • Aldr says

            August 20, 2014 at 15:02

I see him doing 195/240. I doubt he will snatch more than 195 in competition.

              August 20, 2014 at 18:06

I dunno…I think the jury is out…Aramnau and company have had years to get used to the extra bodyweight. Illya might go hit a big snatch. either way his Clean and jerk is going to be gigantic by all appearances.

            • Paulo Cavalcanti says

              August 20, 2014 at 19:41

Yeah, that’s what I meant by “close”. I wonder if that close will be enough for a total record since his jerk is so heavy. I can’t say yes or no for that. At the same time, it is sick how he can go close to his maximum in competion, I can imagine him winning any competion the same way as it was until now.

Word on the street is that he will go to 85 after Rio to take the 219 C&J record and then retire. 😀

      August 19, 2014 at 23:49

Wait, you have to slow your role… Aramnau still holds the world record total with these lifts ilya completed in training. And he is scheduled to compete in Rio.

      • Tom Bennett says

        August 20, 2014 at 18:04

I sorta agree…there’s some really good 105ers Nurudinov, Akkaev, aramnau, that if they’re healthy can hit these numbers plus their snatches are (currently) 10kg+ over Illya.

  4. Shaun says

His pull has always looked unique with the oscillating back and forth as he picks the bar up from the floor

    • LVLAaron says

      August 20, 2014 at 02:15

For sure. He is the master of bar whip.

      • Magneto says

        August 20, 2014 at 16:02

I think Shaun is writing about his changing back angles during the first pull (isn’t he?) … bar whip comes into play in the jerk and I agree: He’s a master there, too.

i still cant get down how he moves like that in his bar path.

This kind of training is very close to Bulgarian system.
