Long Qingquan 137kg Snatch + 170kg Clean & Jerk 2016 Olympic Games

August 8, 2016 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile at the Rio 2016 Olympics …

25 year old Long Qingquan (56kg) just became a two time Olympic champion (after 2008)!

137kg Snatch + 170kg Clean & Jerk for a new World Record Total (breaking Mutlu’s)!

Om Yun Chol second with 134+169.

Long Qingquan (-56kg, @hookgripchn) snatching 137kg/302lb — just 2kg under Wu Jingbiao's world record from the 2015 WWC — en route to a 137/170/307 gold medal performance. The 307kg total broke a world record set at the 2000 Olympics — 16 years prior! This also made Long the only male to win multiple Olympic titles since the 2004 Olympics (assuming the Beijing/London retests are sanctioned as expected).

Long Qingquan (-56kg, China) clean and jerking 170kg/375lb — the first Chinese male to ever CJ triple bodyweight in int'l competition! This also won him the title over 2012 champion Om Yun Chol and it set a new 307kg World Record in the total — breaking Halil Mutlu's 305kg WR that had stood since the 2000 Sydney Games.

That was an amazing fight between those two. Can’t wait to see them again in Tokyo and hopefully without injuries as well. Om Yun Chol’s miss on C&J really cost him his chance but nevertheless amazing display. Disappointed in Kim Tuan Thach as he should have secured a total before going broke.

Made my day/week/month. I went ballistic when I saw Long’s 170. I was stoked when I saw him make 161/166 so easily. Never seen him lift so easily before. I thought Li Yajun might take gold but Long probably won’t. When I saw Li lose to a 212 total due to very stupid reasons, with Du Li losing the shooting gold to the US, and Sun Yang losing the 400 to the Aussie, I thought, wow, what a shhit year this is for Chinese athletes. This totally redeems it… for now…

On another note, does this make Om the only man to get beaten after clean and jerking over triple bodyweight? Haha
