“Programs Work” – Experiences with a Year on 5/3/1

April 5, 2012 By Gregor Winter

Gabe from “A Year on Wendler’s 5/3/1” put up his final post.

I have been following his blog since mid 2011. He documented his progress following 5/3/1 (intermixed with a cycle of smolov for squats and smolov jr. for bench). And it was fun to see and learn how he approached / adjusted the program.

His starting lifts were:

  • 405 lbs x1 (quarter) squat
  • 260 lbs x1 bench
  • 405 lbs x7 deadlift (touch-and-go)

and he progressed to:

  • 515 lbs squat:
  • 300 lbs bench
  • 565 lbs deadlift

Verdict:

Programs work. Pick one and let it mature. Have faith in your program. Make eating and sleeping priority number one. If you do those three things, you will make progress.

So if you are on 5/3/1 or are thinking about trying it, I suggest reading through his posts to get an idea of what it is like.
