Raw Unity Meet 7 Highlights w/ Malanichev 460kg Squat, Dan Green, Paul Nguyen, Jesse Norris

February 8, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile at the Raw Unity Meet 7 …

Update: Andrey Malanichev was given 3 white lights on his 460kg (1014 lbs) Squat.

Probably the fastest I have seen 460kg move.

He also benched 260kg and deadlifted 400kg for a new Total World Record (1120 kg / 2469 lbs).

Here is a video of him getting his wraps on.

Update: A reader sent in this depth comparison of the 460kg and the 455kg, which was red lighted last time… Your thoughts?

Here are all lifts and from that angle it definitely looks high.

Different angle:

In the 75kg class Paul Nguyen’s smoked a 325.5kg Deadlift.

Dan Green, who earlier this week pause Squatted 320kg, went for 355.5kg (783 lbs) on his 4th attempt.

Yesterday he weighed in at 100kg (24 hour weigh-ins).

Update: Bench Press: 227.5kg, Deadlift: 375kg (Sumo) for a 957.5kg Total (2110 lbs).

Video of all lifts:

Different Squat Angle:

Jesse Norris also had a decent meet He totaled 860kg (he totaled 861kg not too long ago).

Malanichev sunk his deep. Good god that was fast on the way up!!!!!

Somewhere there is confusion about this squat. It’s either not 355 or it’s not a record. Sam Byrd squatted 355 at RUM, which is the current record. According to Sam, Green beat his squat by 1 kg. Sam is there, so I doubt he’s confused about his record. Pretty sure this 356 kgs, though I’ve seen it listed as 355 several places.

Also, this beats Belyaev’s wrapped total record at 220… But Green did it without wraps.

      damn…that’s pretty amazing.

Looks like 0.5 kg metric plates on either side… so 356kg. Anyone with a better view? What a monster!

I don’t see the 0.5 plates. In weightlifting comps the discs are stacked according to weight, so the 0.5 would be outside of the collar. Do they do it differently in PL comps (I would not be surprised).

yeah in pl everything is on the inside of the collar. just google eleiko pl collar, then notice that the 0,5kg plate you linked is on the inside of it. small, but defently there

          February 9, 2014 at 19:36

This is correct; we PLers never put anything outside the collar, and you can so the little Eleiko plates right inside. Thanks for the screenshot, Gregor.

    They have 4 attempts?

I’m fairly sure if your last attempt is a world record attempt then you can get 4

      • Everett says

        February 9, 2014 at 20:42

This is correct. It just doesn’t count toward your total. Dan Green broke Belyaev’s total record without even his heaviest squat counting towards it.

  6. Everett says

    February 9, 2014 at 19:35

Derek Kendall squatted 427.5 kgs and benched 272.5 kgs. Malanichev benched 260, so he should top his previous total quite easily.

  7. Everett says

    February 9, 2014 at 20:42

Also, Paul Nguyen’s deadlift is 326 kgs, not 325. Like Green’s squat, he was breaking the all-time WR by 1 kg, so the micro plates are in play. He broke Vashon Perryman’s all-time world record of 325 kgs.

Jesus christ Malachinev is an absolute monster. He destroyed that 460 squat. If he went up any faster the bar probably would have snapped from the force and whip. A well deserved and well earned world record.

The total world record I find even more impressive. It took 39 years for someone to finally beat Don Reinhout’s raw world record. Malanichev absolutely destroyed that total record. He broke it in style both times. Amazing form, doesn’t cut depth and pauses properly with the bench. He’s what all power lifters should aspire to be. Immensely powerful, incredibly explosive, and near perfect form. I’m a weightlifting fan at heart but Malanichev is my hero.

Here’s a more polished version of Malan’s total that I put together.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8gbvMedqMo
Malan’s squat may have been a little borderline by PL standards (haven’t seen a good side angle yet), but again, we’ve all admired some high squats from Salimi and Chingiz, so I’m not too torn up about it. Reinhoudt’s total was done under more lax judging for bench and deadlift by far, and his squat was about the same depth as Malan’s.
