Robert Lustig’s Authors@Google Talk on Obesity

August 7, 2011 By Gregor Winter

Here is a must watch. Another fantastic presentation by Robert Lustig, M.D.

You probably know him from his “Sugar: The Bitter Truth” talk.

Now he did an Authors@Google talk in which he tackles the question

What’s causing the obesity epidemic?

He presents the issues and history that let to the current situation really well and tells you why a calorie is not a calorie, as well as showing some pretty frightening statistics.

Money quotes:

“There are more obese people in the world now, than mal nurished people, by 30%.”

 and

“We have an epidemic of obese 6-month olds.”

For more information he mentions the following papers at the end of his talk:

Fructose: metabolic, hedonic, and societal parallels with ethanol.
The role of fructose in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and the metabolic syndrome.

I am really looking forward to his upcoming book “Fat Chance: Gambling on our personal and public health”,

Here again is Sugar: The Bitter Truth in case you have not yet watched it.

Filed Under: diet, fructose, glucose, health, lecture, nutrition, protein, soy, sugar, videos
