What do you know ( and that do you think) about “International friendship tournament KOR-JPN-CHN : Korea-Japan-China” in South Korean “Seocheon” ( in official Calendar IWF) from 3 until 8 November 2018 ( directly during World Championship-2018 in Ashgabat ( from 1 until 10 November). Which a Normal weightlifter ( or Adequate Federation of weightlifting, as Chinese or Japanese) will to send ( will go) on tournament in South Korea Best own weightlifters, during Official Qualification World Weightlifting Championship-2018 ????? Do you not know, Why this tournament in November ( in South Korea) stands in Official Calendar IWF directly during World Weightlifting Championship-2018 ???

This is likely a “bronze level” event for those lifters from these countries who aren’t at the world championships but still need a chance to qualify for Tokyo (6 IWF competitions rule).

Actually, scratch that. It’s not an IWF event (missing logo next to it), just recognized by them.

As of now it’s NOT a bronze level event. I’m not sure who’ll be there, but I’d guess just some lower/Junior lifters.

      Injured

        Really?? Fuuuuuuuuuu!!! How seriously? Where?

        • Fanchen Bao says

          September 10, 2018 at 20:56

According to the commentators, the injury was in the shoulders. But they didn’t mention how serious the injury was. However, given that these two commentators were not the most reliable in terms of validity of information, I would not trust their words fully (in other words, I think Shi might really be injured, but not necessarily in the shoulders).

    Gregor, thanks for good coverage.

We may see Men 96kg winner at the next major championship lift more than 102 and 109 category winners. This would be the first although lifting more than the next higher weight winner was done before.

Just curious, does anyone know Tian Tao’s walk weight? Any chance he can make 81 or is he gonna swoll up to 96?

    • Jerker Karlsson says

      September 9, 2018 at 20:29

He was almost 92 kg here. It would be a big ask to go down to 81 kg. I do not think that will happen, but who knows, I am not an expert. China does have issues producing heavy athletes on par with their lighter ones, among the men. I think the will keep Tian Tao heavier, and let some lighter lifter fill the 81 kg spot in Tokyo, if China sends a lifter in that category.

        September 9, 2018 at 20:48

Li Daying is a shoo in for the 81. He’s improving rapidly at a young age and he was always a bit too tall/lanky for the 77. This time he’s got 171 +201 from 81. Promising numbers considering his growth curve.

    • Fanchen Bao says

      September 10, 2018 at 21:00

Tian most likely will stay at 96, according to the commentators of the meet. But they also emphasized that he needed at least another 10+ kg in C&J to be competitive in the new weight class. We all know that his clean is not an issue, and judging from his choice in jerk this time, he probably gonna go for power jerk exclusively (a right choice in my opinion).
