Liang Chenxi 190kg or 200 Clean & Jerk 167kg Hang Snatch

July 28, 2015 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in China…

Liang Chenxi (69kg) did some big lifts in training.

He was 5th at the 2013 worlds with 145+183.

Here he lifts over both 69kg world records in training (166kg and 198kg) with 167kg and 200kg!
(note: the caption of the video says 200kg, but count the plates yourself)

Liang Chenxi (69kg) clean and jerking a world record breaking 200kg during training today! Just amazing to watch. #mastrength #Chineseweightlifting #weightlifting #worldrecord #breaking #clean #jerk #olympiclifting

There just might be two fivers on the end of the bar in the C&J making it 200.

doesn’t look like it to me

The 20 plate looks thinner than the other black one to me. If it is a 25, then it is indeed 200.

I reckon they know best. I see the weights like this:20kg-15kg-10kg-20kg-15kg-5 or 10kg plate, so 190/200 in total as stated. I see no reason for them to lie about it being more than it really is, I mean they’ve got Liao Hui who’s lifted this much as well. And it certainly looks like a shit-ton of weight.
edit: read the insta description, two 5kg plates.

That’s 190 and 152 (or 157 if blacks underneath). Come on uploader.

Definitely not 200. Maybe 195 if blacks or some weird braces. Either way, amazing, though I doubt this guy is the competition machine that Liao is (kindly forget that bombed snatch at nationals -_-)

I don’t see why the outside plates on the C&J couldn’t be 10 kg change plates. They look bigger than typical 5 kg plates. We have such plates at my gym, they’re simply beefier versions of 5 kg plates.

The caption argues that there are two whites per side, which is clearly not the case. Plus, don’t you think there would have been more of a reaction from the two fellows behind him? Liao has gotten 200 at a non-record competition and possibly a bit higher in training, but probably not that much higher. The gap is not as large as it is for someone like Lu, who apparently clean and jerked 220 in training. According to the Chinese coaches, Liao is basically the same at competitions as he is in training.

While I don’t want to speculate about the plates again, I’d like to point out that Liang was a 77kg lifter in 2008-2009 so maybe he’s near that bw again in these videos.

Liao said in his interview that he’d hit 210 kg in training (3 times, I believe). 210 is a good bit higher than 200! Also I recall hearing (perhaps in the same interview) that Lu has only ever done 210 in training, rather than the 220 figure that keeps getting thrown around.

In any case, 200 kg is immense but probably not that uncommon for Chinese 69’s in the training hall. Remember the old video of Zhang Guozheng trying to get selected for Beijing, and hitting 200 kg in the gym at age ~30+ or whatever it was?

          July 30, 2015 at 23:44

Wow, never knew he’d hit 210! Thanks for that info. (In fact, I looked around before I made that comment so I wouldn’t look like a dummy, but I guess I didn’t look hard enough D: Also @wlift84, didn’t consider he might be over 69, which is obviously possible.

The Lu figure came from a supposed dinner conversation had by a guy who spent some time at the Beijing and military facilities in 2013. Granted, they were drinking some 144 proof wine….

I don’t know of that vid, gonna look it up now!

Zhang Guozheng’s PR was 202kg. Either way, I hope this video gives Liao Hui a reason to train hard again, if the Shi Zhiyong 352 and Feng Ludong 350 did not. I have to admit, if I was Liao, I might lose some drive as well, after taking all 3 records and having beaten my nearest rivals by 15-20kg in basically all my comps.

not trying to fire up the plate discussion again, but I thought it could be that the big plate between the 10 and the 15 was a 25. that would also solve the mystery, unless the uploader of the video insists that there are double plates on the ends of the bar

  9. Nikolai says

    August 2, 2015 at 11:55

Are you guys blind? In the start of the clip, you can clearly see that there is a SMALLER plate between the 5 and the yellow 15, and this small plate may very well be something like a metal 5 kg plate. Just look at the gap between the outer 5 and the 15.
