Lu Xiaojun 176kg Snatch World Record (and 204kg C&J)

October 24, 2013 By Gregor Winter

Lu Xiaojun has done it again!

176kg Snatch World Record at the 2013 World Championships 77kg.

Together with his 204kg Clean & Jerk (2nd attempt) this makes 380kg for a new World Record in the Total.

Watch the Snatch in glorious 120 FPS slow motion (or in full speed here).

So Oleg Perepetchenov’s 210kg still stands.

  • 77kg Results here
  • HookGrip’s Photo of it
  • Lu Xiaojun at the press conference afterwards
  • Recording of the whole 77kg Session: Snatch, Clean & Jerk
  • Recordings of other sessions are on the 2013 Worlds Page

Update 21.11.2013: In this video Lu talks about his experience at worlds. Thanks to Steve for the Translation.

  • had planned to Snatch 170kg, C&J 211kg
  • mind was very clear during snatch warm-up, so he snatched 176kg
  • decided then he could only C&J 204kg, otherwise “it’d be too hard to break a record next time…do this slowly”
  • getting married on Dec 1st…”all friends and family welcomed!” (I assume that includes ATG readers)

The 204kg Clean & Jerk

More Lu:

  • Lu Xiaojun’s 175kg World Record
  • His 260kg Paused Back Squat
  • The Secret Behind his Success – Lu Raises
  • 160kg Snatch High Pulls
  • and of course his Heavy Dips

Update: All Lu lifts.

Looked like he could have gone up past 204?

definitely. i think he and his coach might have wanted to just play it safe and not be too “Greedy” since they already got the total and snatch world record. i hope lu breaks the 210 record soon since it has stood for more than a decade? amazing how a 77kg guy can do 210 where most elite 85kgs guys struggle with that weight.

Awesome! He should have attempted 211 tho!

Shame he didn’t go for 211 – wonder why he wouldn’t?

    • arfea says

      October 25, 2013 at 02:17

several reasons perhaps… one maybe he was tired and 211 would be a near max attempt and it would be a risk to injury etc, also the world champs isn’t as important as olympics, so lu might be saving some of his moves for later… all in all he got two new records and he knew not to be too “greedy”

He said after that he initially planned on lifting 170 + 211. He didn’t think he would get to 176, so he decided to stop at 380, and save the rest of the record breaking for future competitions.

cyst like bruise also bothered him in training

“I don’t care about Lu Xiaojun snatching 176kgs, him passing USADA’s Drug Testing for a year would be more impressive” Kendrick Farris.

    • Aldr says

      October 25, 2013 at 23:12

Maybe Kendrick will be impressed when Lu will total more than him in Rio! Or maybe not even then?

Saw that too. Is there any evidence he is doping or do we just assume based on how good he is? Sad state of international athletics.

    • is kendrick farris clean? says

      October 26, 2013 at 05:44

umm is there proof that kendrick is “clean”? if anything he is suspect as well, i don’t know why he runs his mouth like this. funny how he did a 218 cj in training before back when he was a 85 kg class guy, and no one really pointed fingers. i know his snatch is subpar compared to elite but that’s likely due to snatch technique.

where did kendrick say this? facebook or? curious to what elicited this comment

An envious guy who will never even touch Xiaojun’s feet.

Lu never intended to break the Snatch and Total World Record. He actually went in with the game plan to break the Clean & Jerk record.
The snatch session went so good that they decided to have a shot at the 176.

Remember the Chinese Nationals was less than 2 months before, where he preformed superb aswell.

In the press conferance after he said he knows the Clean and Jerk World Record is within his abilities.
Guess we have to wait till next time.

Anyone else disappointed by Rasoul Taghian’s performance after his amazing training lifts?

      yep, i expected much more.

    • Doug Nguyen says

      October 28, 2013 at 14:06

really makes me wonder about his actual weight doing those great lifts.

    • grobpote says

      October 28, 2013 at 15:40

He looked like as a guy who was just learning the technique for a few months. He had just one good attempt which proved that he’s not a beginner. I’m sorry to say that but that is the truth. I’m pretty sure he’s a talented and serious lifter but it didn’t show this time.

That was Optimium Precision of movement….You se how he Adjusted with 176.0klg’ssnatch…….There are no Style points in Olympic Weightlifting ….Respectively….I can think right off the top of head of 300 active lifters…that wish they had that much “Force Application” into the platform….and speed and tremendous complete physical ability…again…everyone has a opinion…take care and hope everything is going well with you the last couple of years since this incredible performance

As you can see I was talking about Rasoul Taghian, not Lu.
