whoa, is it just me or did Behdad Salimi’s (the 105+kg lifter) lift come off the ground first before attempting the lift? is that allowed?

It is allowed (as long as it does not pass knee level). See the rulebook at 2.3.2 http://www.iwf.net/doc/technical.pdf

However the timekeeper has to stop the clock once the bar is lifted off the platform and then restart it when it gets back to the ground (6.5.3)

Yes, you may move the bar. As long as it does not pass the knees, the lift has not started. If it were to come above his knees, and then he brought it back down; it would have been no lift.

It would be interesting to see/hear what each of these men have snatched in practice for comparison. I realize it isn’t the same, bodyweight, fully locked, etc, but it would still be good info.

great efforts, but i doesnt like this 85kg-c&j-record. guy arised, lifted world record and was never seen again with some serious weight after this.
would love to see the record affiliates with dimas or huster..

Even if you toss out Zhang Yong’s record, neither Dimas or Huster would have it. It would be Zlatan Vanev’s record with 217.5 (217).

yes, you’re right. vanev’s 217.5 from 2002 is more than dimas ever did, i forgot about this.

    1. Happy 16th birthday to Mr. Zhang Yong for 218 kg. This the oldest record of so called new weight category established from 1998.

Asen Zlatev 225kg in 82.5kg category is still superior. This means Arsen Zlatev is record holder from 12 November 1986, 27.5 years.

    2. Oldest WR belongs to Blagoy Blagoev at 195.5kg snatch from May 1st of 1983 (31 years old).

    3. 2nd oldest record and oldest CJ record belongs to Naim Suleymanov at 173.0 kg in 56kg category from 1984 (29.5 years).

      225 at 82,5kg. No words …

The Bulgarian rule of weightlifting: For every record now there was a lighter Buglarian who lifted more.

Exactly and this track record has been established with a population of only 5 millon citizens!!

Has anyone seen a list of world records for each year? I mean, somewhere where I can check what the record in snatch for 77kg was 10 years ago.

You can check progress lists. The IWF has one, but it only properly starts in 2005 when the 1kg rule was set in place.

Polska Stanga has better listings, with all of the old stuff as well:

(Progresja Rekordów Świata Mężczyzn w latach 1998-2012r) for your example
